Why is my external monitor not detected on MacBook Pro?

The issue is when the lid of my macbook m3 pro is open, the external monitor is not seen anywhere, my monitor is LG 29 inch ultrawide. But when i close the lid while my mac is on. the external monitor works. What to do to fix this issue.

whenever 'opening and closing the built-in display' changes the external display, suspect that the displays are Mirrored.

When you tell you Mac to Mirror displays, it examines the resolutions and refresh rates each display is capable of, and attempts to calculate a compromise that will work for BOTH displays at the same time. Sometimes that compromise resolution is not quite right for one display or the other, and drops out.

The quick solution is to turn off Mirroring and run your displays as one big "extended desktop'.

How about Settings>Display and make some changes there...and compare your results.
