Attention aware features not working on iPhone 13 and 12pro scree lock

The attention aware features are turned on, but there is no action while the screen is locked in my 13 and 12pro (ringtone sound is not lowering)

The Attention Aware Features in Face ID serve two main purposes: Check if one of them is not working or both are not working.

  1. Preventing Unauthorized Unlocking – Face ID requires you to be actively looking at the phone to unlock it. This means someone can't just hold your iPhone up to your face while you're asleep or distracted to unlock it.
  2. Adaptive Display & Volume Control – When enabled, the iPhone checks if you're looking at the screen and:
    1. Keeps the screen from dimming if you're actively reading.
    2. Lowers notification volume when you're looking at the phone, assuming you’re aware of the alert.

This setting is found under Settings → Face ID & Passcode → Attention Aware Features and is enabled by default. If disabled, Face ID will work without requiring eye contact, which can be useful for accessibility but slightly reduces security.

If both are not working then ensure your screen protector or case isn't obstructing the front-facing camera. See the pic below
