I need to use a USB SSD with my iPhone 16 pro.
I have the Samsung T7 model - works fine with the iPhone, but issue is: there is no obvious way to eject it safely. You just wait until light stops blinking, and then take it out (which will result in SMART log as an unsafe shutdown record)
or you literally turn off the whole iPhone - SSD blinks, shows red LED (means stopped) and turns off.
any other way to eject an SSD and NOT get an error ?

According to the official documentation, there is no need to use any software to disconnect a usb drive. You pull it out of the port.
Why would Apple add a useless feature?
iOS does not require a SSD to be ejected and there is no Apple support or third party support for ejecting a SSD. Just pull it out .
The only thing I could think of is if the SSD manufacturer has an app for the device you can install on the phone. I know that Sandisk has an app for some of the flash drives they made for the iPhone to create backups with. Maybe something you can check with Samsung about. They should be able to answer your question.
Why add a useless feature. In earlier days of iOS Apple used to promote that it’s not required to eject in iOS. I’ve inserted probably thousands of lightning and now USB-C thumb drives, SSD, hard drives etc. I’ve never had an issue just unplugging the device. I really don’t see a benefit.
Seems like there is no such app.
may be apple will add this pretty useful feature in the future: external storage now is way more used than ever…
