Camera not working for QR Scanner and UPI apps after iOS 18.4 update on iPhone 16 Pro Max in India

I too faced this issue. Disabling the “scan QR code” (Settings > Camera > Scan QR codes) , restarting the phone and re-enabling it again worked for me.

Issue resolved on iOS 18.4.1 after resetting all settings. Inconvenient but scanning is working.

Bro it works:

disable ‘Scan QR codes’ by going to

Settings >Camera>Toggle ‘Scan QR Codes’

Turn it off.

Restart the device.

Turn it back on.

Try your UPI app now.

I have a fix that worked for me. Not sure how long it’ll actually work for as I just did it 5 mins ago.

Settings > Camera > Scan QR Codes > deselect so that it is turned off > Resart iPhone (click volume up, click volume down, hold power button until black screen)

I got thie issue third time today, Earlier I used to reboot the phone but it took a lot of time. I tried a different way this time. I took photograph of the UPI QR code and then used image upload to pay and it worked. The issue is only for any apps using QR code. I first encoutered it when paying via District app.

You need to have Apple perform diagnostics on your iPhone. It can be done in person at an Apple Retail Store or at an Apple Authorized Service Provider. You can also contact Apple Support and request remote diagnostics.

I too had same issue , Apple support suggested to do reset all settings and this resolved in iOS 18.4 however it resurfaced again in 18.4.1 post update.

Hey, i too faced this issue for the upi apps and scanners, to resolve simply go to camera settings and turn off scan codes setting. Then restart your ios device. Issue resolved.

As a point of reference, I was able to complete a transaction using Google Pay's QR scan on an iPhone 13 Pro (iOS 18.5) without any problems. It seems the issue may be isolated to your particular device.

Take a screenshot of the QR code and Firmly Press the QR code from the Photos app.

Force restarting the iphone resolved this problem.

The camera in iPhone 16 models focus differently, not as close. The apps from Walmart, Safeway and other merchants need to ge updated. Please contact the app developers or the support teams at the businesses and alert them to the situation and request they update their app.
