Camera not working for QR Scanner and UPI apps after iOS 18.4 update on iPhone 16 Pro Max in India

Can Apple at least acknowledge this. It’s so inconvenient to not be able to make payments. Happening to me across UPI apps. Deleting and reinstalling doesn’t work. Neither does revoking and reviving camera permissions.

For me it's Walmart payment app and Safeway "UPC scanner" functionality. The actual camera for taking photos on my phone works great. It's not tied to permissions, etc. Only temporary fix is to reboot my phone. Not super convenient when I'm in line and people are waiting on me...

If you’re not in India, not using UPI, and not using an iPhone 16 Pro, why would you post in so specific a thread?

If you have a solution, please share. But there is no solution in the 3 sentences you posted. You’re in India and having banking issues with UPI, is that correct? Exactly how did you solve the issue with your banking apps?

I’m using an iPhone 16 Pro Max and have updated to the latest iOS version (18.5). However, I’m still facing an issue where the QR scanner goes black in apps like PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm, etc. The only temporary fix is restarting the phone, which is inconvenient and frustrating, especially when I need to make quick payments. Please look into this and provide a resolution as soon as possible. It’s causing a lot of discomfort in daily usage.

I’m using an iPhone 14 Pro Max and have updated to the latest iOS version (18.5). However, I’m facing an issue where the QR scanner goes black in apps like PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm, BHIM etc. I have to use the front camera. By default the front camera opens when the PhonePe app is opened

In my case, I went to “Settings > Camera” and there’s no mention of QR Code. The camera app itself does detect QR Codes though, just not the “QR Code Scanner” functionality itself (which other apps seem to use).

Even the QR Scanner from Control Centre shows a black screen, unless I restart the phone. After a restart, it works for a while, but the problem eventually returns.

1. Camera permissions are fine

2. Reinstalled UPI apps (Google Pay, Paytm)

3. Force closed background apps

4. Camera works in the main Camera app (photo/video modes), but not in QR-related functions

I’m also facing the same issue after recent IOS update in my iphone 16, after a day or two camera on these UPI apps doesn’t work and have to restart again. Apple support team kindly fix this bug in the recent ios update.
