apple carplay wont play with lightning cable but will with other phone

When I plug my phone in as usual to connect to Apple CarPlay, my phone briefly reads the charge and then disconnects. The CarPlay screen shows that is started to connect but then stops instantly. This is with a usb to lightning cable. (I do not have Apple CarPlay with Bluetooth connection)

When my boyfriend uses his phone with a usb to usb c cable, it connects fine and shows no issues connecting it.

I also have no issues charging my phone anywhere else. I have also used two different usb to lightning chords to try and fix this issue but both are showing connection issues. These chords work fine when I plug them into other outlets to charge my phone
