Can I use a 2nd gen Apple Pencil that’s charged with a new gen 10 iPad?

We have an old iPad Pro that died and my teen used it for art. The 2nd gen magnetic pencil still works fine it just won’t charge because the iPad is dead. They want to get a 10th gen iPad (the pro was free from grandma who never used it) because it’s cheaper, but don’t want to have to buy a new pencil. You can buy a charging dock for $15 which is way cheaper than a new pencil. Will the pencil pair with the newer iPad or are we going to have to drop $80 on a usb c pencil?

The iPad10 supports only the first generation Apple Pencil - and the USB-C Apple Pencil. The iPad10 not support the second generation Pencil, or the new Apple Pencil Pro. Pencil's can only be used with the iPads that support them - and are otherwise not interchangeable.
