Open link in new private window doesn't open?

Since recently updating to Sequoia 15.4 from Sonoma 14.7.4 clicking on "Open link in new private window" no longer works? Is there a way to fix this? I notice this command works in Chrome, so it must be specific to Safari.

  1. I solved it! In the Safari app  on your Mac, choose Safari > Settings, then click General.
  2. Click the “Safari opens with” pop-up menu, then choose “A new private window.”
  3. If you don’t see this option, choose Apple menu  > Settings, click General, then make sure “Close windows when quitting an app” is selected.

Seems to work for me, which implies there's something different about the setup that's getting in the way on your machine.

Are these standard links you're clicking? or some dynamic/JavaScript-based function on the page?

Does it happen everywhere, on every page? or only specific sites?

Only happens on specific sites where privacy has been chosen, i.e., "Open New Private Window." So, right clicking on any link on the site and choosing "Open Link in New Private Window," does open another private window but the link fails to work and the window remains blank.

"New Windows" chosen from Safari's toolbar "File," once open, all work when I click on "Open New Window."

None work with Private Windows.
