Magic Keyboard for iPad Air Not Working

iPad Air 13-Inch (M2) with Apple Magic Keyboard and Case. Trackpad quit working an hour ago, keyboard still works (typing this on that same keyboard). The iPad Air is running the latest iPadOS 18.4. Keyboard is running firmware 0241.0526.0200, hardware version 0009.

I have tried turning off the iPad, disconnecting from the Apple Magic Keyboard, then turning on and reconnecting. That hasn’t fixed the issue.

Any suggestions on additional troubleshooting steps?

Remove the iPad from the Keyboard - and carefully/gently clean the smart connector contacts on both the iPad and keyboard with a soft pencil eraser (a drafting-film eraser is ideal). Ensure that the contacts on both iPad and keyboard are dirt and dust free - and all debris from the eraser have been removed - before reconnecting the two.
