For the last couple of weeks recent photos are disappearing from my phone. They are not in Recent Days or Recently Deleted. How do I get these photos back?? I do see the photos appear on my iPad. What is happening?

Yes I meant pictures taken with my phone in the last few days.
It didn’t make a difference when I sorted by Recently Added or Sort by Date Captured. I didn’t notice there is also Filter and View Options until a couple days ago. I tapped on View Options and checked Screenshots and the missing photos reappeared(!) although they weren’t technically screenshots but shots taken with my iPhone of my Mac screen.

Is it possible that you are looking at different places on your iPad and your iPhone? Perhaps your Libraries are sorted differently?
When you are in the Library view, with "Library" at the top, you can sort you pictures with the "Sort Menu" at the bottom of the screen.
Are both your devices sorting in the same way? by date Added or Captured?
Are you using iCloud to synchronize your Photos Libraries? Are you using "Optimize Storage" for Photos on either or both devices?
Do you have at least 10% of your storage free on you devices?

I have check all the settings you mentioned; Libraries on both devices are set up the same way; iCloud Photos is on and synchronize; Optimize Storage is turned on and more than 10% of storage is free.
I did a search for the date of the missing photos and those photos are there but for some reason they are not showing in All photos or Recent Days.
By recent Photos, I have assumed you meant pictures taken on your phone or iPad in the last few days-- is that right? or were the pictures take by another device?
I'm not sure about Recent Days-- I don't think that this is intended show all your recent pictures, so it's unreliable.
You didn't say what you say when you set the Library to sort by date added and by date captured.

That's very good-- my phone has always had everything checked, so I hadn't been thinking of suggesting that others. Thanks!
That is currently not very user friendly - on my iPhone the "Show > Screenshots" is automatically turned off after each software update and I have to enable it over and over again.
It is great to have this option, but it should not be modified, when we just install an update.
There are now so many places to check for modified options.
That's the problem with customization, isn't it. We have to include a warning when we tell people where to find stuff. For filtered, I would expect that, like filters on the Mac, "All Items" would be the default.
