How do I fix screen sharing/sidecar not working between Mac and iPad 6 via Bluetooth?

  • i have two devices, a 2017 mac running on monterey, and a ipad 6 running on 17.7.5
  • both devices have the capacity for screen mirroring and bluetooth connection, as both can easily connect to a tv nearby
  • all the requirements for screensharing/sidecar other than that are fulfilled
  • the only way i can get the two to connect at all is via bluetooth on my mac, which connects for one second and then disconnects immediately
  • wired connection doesn't seem to be an option due to charging port issues on my ipad

what steps should i take to try and fix this?

The ability to connect to a TV nearby does not automatically imply that either device is compatible with Sidecar – or, in a different context, that the Mac is capable of acting as an AirPlay Receiver. (The feature of being able to do AirPlay to an Apple TV set-top box was around long before the other features were.)

Still, your MacBook Pro and your iPad both appear recent enough to meet the Sidecar system requirements.
