Should I upgrade to the iPhone 16 Pro Max for cinematography or stick with my iPhone 16?

Would it be recommended to purchase a new iPhone 16 pro max just for self project cinematography or is my standard every day iPhone 16 still great for it too despite having two cameras and storage filled with other applications?

Equipment for personal projects need to fit your budget. If you don’t need the telephoto camera/lens for your project you’ll be fine using a non-pro model.

Consider external storage if you want to shoot in Apple ProRes Log. I always prefer the larger screen unless you’ll be using an external monitor.

The question you need to ask yourself is if your current phone meets your cinematography needs? That's a decision only you can make, depending on your personal needs. Sure the cameras in an iPhone 16 Pro are better than the cameras in the standard 16, but the standard 16 cameras are pretty terrific just the same. Only you can know if the Pro models would provide enough of an upgrade to make the switch.
