Can I have my battery replaced in the Apple Store without leaving my watch for repair. I use my watch for fall detection and live alone so it is a safety issue to leave the watch.

Actually, I'm almost 100% positive Apple does NOT replace watch batteries in store. They send the watches out for Battery Repair. I'm pretty sure Apple has never done battery replacements in store for Apple Watch.
Call the store and ask specifically for a battery replacement.
