How can I fix charging problems with Apple Pencil 1st generation?

I got a new apple pencil gen 1 after trading in a faulty one i had gotten. it works fine, but sometimes it will stop charging entirely (i recharge when it hits around 30%) and i have to unpair and repair it with my ipad for it to start charging. is there anything i can do to make this less of an annoyance or prevent it altogether?
