Don't know where to go to re-enter my password for an email account

I have an email account that is off-line and I need to re-enter my password and username. However, for the life of me, I cannot find where it is that I can do this.

Thanks

It partly depends on the type of account, and which application you're using to access it.

For most accounts, the place to start would be Settings -> Internet Accounts. That should at least list the accounts that are configured on your system. If it's there, you should get prompted to enter the password for any account that isn't already authenticated.

If it's not there it gets a little more complicated. Was this account ever configured on this machine? What kind of account is it?

Remove the email account, and re-add it.

Removing and re-adding an email account does not effect mail already on your Mac, and does not effect mail already stored on the server.

Removing and re-adding an email account clears up many common issues.

I'm assuming this is not an email account associated with an organization or business or school; with an IT-managed email account. If this is such, contact the IT group managing email services for your organization.

Thanks for helping, this is just your basic everyday email account that I need to reset the password on . It's been working fine for years but a couple of days ago I realized I wasn't getting any mail. I checked with Connection Doctor in Mail and found that it was offline. Nothing I tried worked so I got a message at one point to re-authenticate and verify password. Since then I've been trying to find out where I would go to but without any luck. I checked in my Internet accounts in system settings and tried clicking on my email account and it opens up a window showing my email address at the top along with a link to details. Below that are four slider buttons which are on. The detail box only shows my email address, description and name. There is also a delete account button, but no sign of any password. Hope this helps.
