How do I install Office 2024 on a MacBook Pro after migrating from Office 2011?

Hi, Thanks for your prior help on migrating from an early 2014 MacBook Air to my new MacBook Pro. All went well with using the internet vs. some connecting cable. But, migrated over was my Office 2011. I tried to purchase Office 2024 today, and though it kept trying to sell me on Office 365, I am now pretty well retired and don't want to pay for 365. However, as I purchased Office 2024 today, and see the install button, the system refuses to install it. Do I need to uninstall the Office 2011 that migrated over? Or is Microsoft just pushing 365? Anyway, I see my old Word, Excel, etc items in the Dock, but all are "x"ed out. Any suggestions would be great. Thank you.

Office Not Installing:

Microsoft's not going to push you a transaction. What you are seeing is likely a promotion.

A. Turn Off All VPNs:

If you have any VPNs enabled, turn the off.

B. Re-Install this:

Uninstall the older version > restart your Mac > Install the new version > check for updates > Installthe new version> Here is a site directly from Microsoft: Uninstall Office for Mac- Microsoft Support

Microsoft Support – Download, install, or reinstall Microsoft 365 or Office 2024 on a PC or Mac

Microsoft Community – Cannot install Office 2024 on a Mac

The second thread contains a reply by someone who appears to be a Microsoft Community Support Specialist that may address the situation you are seeing. Also, a reply by a user who followed the Specialist's instructions – and apparently still saw a prompt to activate Microsoft 365, only to be given the option to activate Office 2024 when they continued on past that prompt.
