Constant internet connection issues after Sequoia 15.4 update

Immediately after updating to 15.4 my MacBook M4 Max has been experiencing constant internet connectivity and instability issues. Constant browser freezes, inability to fully download 1GB file through the browser, videos not playing, etc.

I have tried all manner of things: updating firmware on and rebooting router/extenders, clearing DNS cache, switching WiFi off/on, forgetting/re-adding network, performing SMC reset, etc. I have even tried a wired network connection and yet am still experiencing the same problems—it is not a WiFi issue, or an internet provider issue; I have no problems connecting with my iPhone, iPad, AppleTV, or my wife's MBP M1 Pro (on 15.3.1).

I am at my wits end as I cannot do any work at the moment while this problem persists, and just want to revert back to 15.3.1, but have no clue how to do that either.

Frustrating for sure. 😢

Do you have the same difficulty connecting to the Internet when you run your computer in Safe Boot mode?

Procedure here:- Start up your Mac in safe mode – Apple Support (UK)

Please advise.

Note:-

Your Mac should boot into Safe Mode. You’ll know it's working if:

  • The words “Safe Boot” appear in the upper-right corner of the login window (In a red font)
  • Your Mac might be slower than normal — that’s expected in Safe Mode.

Part 1 of 2

Hum, " Perhaps they should’ve tested 15.4 a little more rigorously before unleashing it."

No Networking issues here

Upgraded ( I own ) 1 M1, 1 M2, 1 M3 and 1 M4 all from 15.0 Initial Release through every single version and landing on current 15.4

Part 2 of 2

If and where applicable

There are 3 Categories of Third Party Software / Services that are baffling.

Why some users insist on installing and using the below software.

In no special order

Commercial VPNs

They may not be what one believes they are doing for the computer and what they actually are doing behind the scenes They may also reduce you Internet Speeds by upwards of 30%

VPN: What you need to know - Apple Community

Third Party Security Software

There are no known Windows-like Viruses in the wild that self replicate and affect macOS, because of the underling UNIX  Foundation and Permission Limitation.

The Operating System resides in a Sealed and Read Only Volume that cannot be opened by the User nor by Third Party Applications.

The Only thing this Antivirus software is protecting is the Bank Account of the Developers and for zero return to the User aside from the problems this software creates.

Security. Built right in

Mac app security enhancements

The Built in Security  is all that is required to protect the computer.

Protecting against malware in macOS

Third Party Disk Cleaners / Optimizer

Any Third Party Applications that will interfere with the normal operation of the OS,  is an invitation for disaster.

Certain Applications maybe available on the Apple Apps Store - this only means the Developer is prepared to pay Apple a percentage on each sale.

What the Application may do to the computer is up to the User to check this out before purchase

To put the Third Party Disk Cleaner / Optimizer in context and the damages it may have or has already done.

This type of applications can or will Muck Up your User Account ( Home Folder ) of this machine.

It does not touch the Operating System itself unless you consider your User Account ( Home Folder ) as part of the Operating System.

The Operating System is hosed

SMC reset on a MacBook M4 Max ?

You will need to explain that one of you would

Understand that the MacBook M4 Max probably arrived with possibly a Special Build of macOS 15 Sequoia which was Unique to the M4 Max

So downgrading may not be possible

Further, downgrading is not supported by apple nor is it generally suggested

For whatever reason my network would not display as 2 different bands (2.4/5Ghz) tried to separate it into the 2 and was unsuccessful so I had to have someone come out from my fiber company. The router was replaced and we were able to separate the 2. Now I have my Mac connected to the 5Ghz where before it was bouncing back and forth between the 2 and ultimately kicking itself off.
