Why are incoming calls from a specific phone number going directly to voicemail on my iPhone?

I've recently realized that one particular phone number in my contacts cannot call me on my iphone, whereas all others (at least as far as I know!) can do so. Also, I can call that phone number just fine.  Texts in both directions are not an issue, just the incoming phone calls from them to my phone.

When that particular phone number calls me, I see no indicator or ringing.  Also, on my phone I do not see a "Missed Call" either, afterwards.

All other phone numbers (to my knowledge) seem to be coming through just fine and I receive the call.

Also, I can call that problem phone number just fine as well.

Has anyone experienced this issue?

Do Not Disturb is not on for that number or any other, nor is any kind of airplane mode, and that number is not blocked.

Both phones are iPhones.  The one not receiving is a 14 Pro Max with IOS 18.4. The other is a 14 Pro with the same IOS. They are both on the same carrier account. The problem just recently started.

I know a question like this was posted here before, but no solution was identified and confirmed as a fix.

Thanks in advance for any help.

If it's not even showing up as a missed call that means the call is never making it to your phone at all.

Contact your cellular carrier. There's nothing you can do on your phone to fix it if the call never reaches your phone.

Here are a few reasons why this might be happening

  • Blocked Contacts:
  • Check your iPhone's blocked contacts list in Settings > Phone > Blocked Contacts. If the number is listed, remove it to allow calls to ring.
  • "Silence Unknown Callers":
  • This feature in iOS silences calls from numbers not in your contacts. To disable it, go to Settings > Phone and turn off "Silence Unknown Callers".
  • Call Forwarding:
  • Ensure call forwarding is not active. You can check this in Settings > Phone > Call Forwarding.
  • Network Issues:
  • Poor signal or intermittent network connectivity can cause calls to go straight to voicemail, says VoiceDrop. Try restarting your phone or moving to a location with better reception, says Slybroadcast
  • SIM Card Issues:
  • If the SIM card has shifted, it might be interfering with network connections
  • The caller might be using a system that bypasses ringing and goes straight to voicemail.
