This could be helpful for some or all. This problem was absolutely driving me crazy. My wife had the iPhone 16 (I have 16 Pro) and she also did the update to 18.4.1, but her phone connected immediately with zero problems, so we went back and forth to see what the difference could be. We spent two hours in the car trying everything while searching both English and Japanese recommended solutions without success. One of the only difference that we eventually found was Apple Intelligence. She had not elected to use Apple Intelligence, while I had it on. Unfortunately, I tried to just turn it off, but that still didn't work. With frustration, I completely reset my iPhone back to factory settings, and when I had the option to turn on Apple Intelligence, I did not turn it on. After the phone finished resetting, and started restoring my iCloud backup, I checked and the IOS was automatically installed to 18.4.1, but I went out to the car, and it immediately connected to CarPlay. IT SEEMS THAT APPLE INTELLIGENCE IS THE PROBLEM AND YOU MUST RESET YOUR PHONE TO COMPLETELY REMOVE APPLE INTELLIGENCE FROM YOUR PHONE. Note: it is possible that there is some other unforeseen problem that just resetting the phone to factory fixed, but again, Apple Intelligence was the only difference between mine and my wife's phone. Hope this helps out!

"CarPlay is not working after iOS 18.4.1 update: I did a hard restart on the phone and manually made it forget the previous car connection - rehooked it up and I was finally able to get it working with its wired connection again."

Last night, by chance, I found out why Carplay stopped working for me. On my phone, I have ExpressVPN. This started on its own after the IOS 18.4.1 update. But in such a way that it couldn't be seen. Coincidentally, another app also stopped wanting to connect and I tried to make it work over the VPN. When I wanted to start ExpressVPN it crashed, noticing that it was running. The other app was also able to start normally again and my Carplay also did it again. So if you also have a VPN tool, just check that it is not turned on.

Hello,

I finally got it working. Completed the following steps:

While phone is not in car, removed the car setup from the phone in the following places. Suggest you do this a far distance from the car.

remove car from the following on the phone.

  1. WiFI
  2. Bluetooth
  3. Car play.

Finally, hard reset of the phone.

While the phone is not in the car, removed phone from car in the appleCarPlay

Hard reset of the computer in the car. Shut off car and waited 5 minutes.

Took phone to car, started setup process again from the car (Skoda). This time on the phone I got "please allow the car to access contacts, ...etc" answered yes.

This worked.

key is to do this while the devices can't communicate and continue to reconnect via Bluethooth, wifi or applecarplay.

good luck

2021 Mazda CX5 + iPhone 14 Pro + iOS 18.4.1

  • I initially could not get CarPlay(wired) to work at all, even after restarting the phone several times, and the car. The phone could charge and connect with Bluetooth just fine the entire time.
  • I got CarPlay to work by deleting the saved connection/profile on both my phone (for the car) in CarPlay->My Car and the car (for the phone) in Settings->Connectivity Settings->Smartphone Connectivity Settings->Apple CarPlay settings"

Now it works, will see if it stays that way

I may have found the solution (at least it worked for me):

1) Disable the CarPlay device on your iPhone

2) Restart your iPhone just in case.

3) Start the car: it doesn't matter if the device connects with the car automatically via Bluetooth

4) Important: connect the iPhone using an original Apple cable (with a non-original cable, pairing and charging will not work).

3) IPhone with CarPlay is found automatically.

Everything seems to work fine now. The problem is the non-original cable and must be paired with the Iphone and reconnected again.

Fixing CarPlay Connection Issues after IOS update

Enable all Siri functions:

    • Settings → Siri & Search → turn on “Hey Siri”, “Enable Siri When Locked”, and “Type to Siri”.

Clear connections:

    • Manually remove all saved devices from both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi lists.

Re-pair CarPlay from scratch.

This makes sense, because CarPlay relies heavily on Siri permissions and clean Bluetooth/Wi-Fi profiles. After iOS updates, those sometimes get reset or corrupted.

Finally!!!

After updating iOS to 18.6 I did the following to fix wireless CarPlay in my 2023 Mazda CX-50:

  1. Deleted the Mazda connection from my iPhones Bluetooth and wireless settings.
  2. Deleted my iPhone from the Mazda infotainment settings. *Settings > connectivity settings >  Bluetooth/Phone … > Delete paired device
  3. I then reconnected via Bluetooth on the iPhone. I also connected via the wireless even though Hotspot is turned off.

I’m had the same problem. I have a 2023 VW Polo and CarPlay was pretty reliable. Normally at start up the car connects via USB if detected then wireless if not.

It pretty much refused to connect via USB and wireless was unresponsive to touch.

After forgetting the Car in CarPlay settings, restarting my phone and clearing the Bluetooth connections on my car infotainment. Touch wood it’s been okay since.

It generally prefers wireless over USB now but it’s as responsive as ever.

Oh and I swapped USB ports and cables while troubleshooting. Not sure if that helped as I lost track in frustration.

OK, saying apparently this update was supposed to fix that issue. The only work around I have found for me is forgetting the device resetting my phone, making sure that my car is up-to-date, turning off my car, letting it sit for a while, then finally coming back after about 30 minutes, turning my car on connecting to Apple CarPlay via USB and enabling Wireless if available and that should as it did with me allow you to get Apple CarPlay back.
