Do I need a special dongle on my iMac to receive signal from my Logitech keyboard?

I got a used wireless Logitech K270 keyboard to use with an old iMac 9.1 computer that I inherited, put fresh, fully-charged batteries in it, turned it on, but it doesn't connect. I checked the battery housing terminals in the keyboard and they are all nice & clean, not corroded at all.

I'm wondering if I need some kind of special plug-in dongle on the iMac to receive the signal from the keyboard. I tried plugging in a Bluetooth 5.0 Nano USB Adapter, then went to the Bluetooth Assistant on the iMac, which says that it is searching for a keyboard, but is unable to find one.

Do I maybe need a special receiver dongle from Logitech in order for the keyboard to connect?

In addition to den.thed's excellent reply, please note the following:

Logitech offered two types of propriety receivers with some of their wireless keyboards:
- On older models, they provided the Unifying Receiver. As den.thed has mentioned, the K270 keyboard uses this receiver.
- On newer models, they provide the Logi Bolt Receiver.
- They are NOT interchangeable!
Most Logitech wireless keyboards also support Bluetooth connectivity, so in theory, neither of these receiver are required. However this particular keyboard model does not support Bluetooth at all.
The K270 was introduced in 2011.
