Why did 1-800-MY Apple take me to and have me call 1-800-275-2273

From the support page of Apple I clicked contact support clicked 1-800-My-Apple and this was the number I looked it up online and everything is from years ago and says it’s a scam.



how do I confirm I’m talking to an Apple representative? Several times now they can’t tell me their name, can’t view my screen even if offer them to they deny they can do it.


how can I get security audit from Apple

I can see that yes also very old and Apple has shifted from that number expecting 1800-my-Apple to be just that. It’s not why?

As seen at the top left of this Apple page, you can still call 1-800-MY-APPLE.


There's nothing in your Google screen shot I didn't already describe. 1-800-275-2273 is a legitimate Apple support number. It's right in the first link I provided.


I also explained that scammers SPOOF that number when making blind calls in the attempt to scare you into believing nonsense. So you're only showing me what I already know, and already told you.


Apple WILL NOT call you unless you request a call back. EVER. Do you understand this?


If that is indeed Apple you were messaging with, it's clear you were conversing with AI, as evidenced by the canned, common responses. These two in particular, more than several responses apart:


Jeremy, trust me on this, if I had that access I would love to assist you without any second thoughts and did not share the option for the phone support. I am trained in this, if you want I can surely assist you over the chat however I don't have the option for the screen sharing and our phone support team has that option

Jeremy, trust me on this if I had option to do that I would have definitely done that for you without any second thought in my mind.


The poor grammar used by the AI is also a dead giveaway. Apple is very conscious of using proper English in all communications. They wouldn't let something even as simple as the missing comma after "on this" in the second example above go by. And it wouldn't be a comma. Proper English would be; Jeremy, trust me on this. Lots of businesses are doing this. Xfinity/Comcast I know for sure is another because I also ended up with AI a couple of months back, even after their chat said I was talking to a live agent. When the responses became both word for word repeats, and complete nonsense, I knew I wasn't conversing with a real person.

I NEED A SECURITY AUDIT

If all you did was waste time in an AI chat, you don't need security anything. Not unless you gave up personal information, such as your Apple ID and password, credit card number, or other info that would be valuable to a crook.

You will want pay for that audit, though the results of such audits are likely far from a certainty. (Conclusively proving a complex device is not hacked is exceedingly difficult, if not impossible. And that’s before any discussions about simply copying some of the credentials elsewhere. Usual remediation for a breach is a factory reset, re-installing from known-good sources, changing all passwords, and related steps.)

Given you were chatting with Apple (and apparently also chatting with an Apple chatbot?), I don’t see the point of performing a security audit, nor of re-installing, though.


Still have concerns about the conversation you had with Apple? (Or with that chatbot?) Re-contact Apple Support directly, and discuss this and confirm with them; confirm what happened with Apple.


To confirm Apple’s numbers, check the previpusly-linked docs at the Apple website. Search results from Google can be SEO’d into junk, or AI-generated confusion, unfortunately.

Then I don't know who you were talking to. Apple has their own access built into iOS and macOS. They will never, EVER, tell you to download something like LogMeIn, TeamViewer, or any other third party remote access software.


Apple's support connects directly to your device, and only after you give them permission.

800-275-2273 is the number for Apple Education and Accessibility support.

You are chatting Apple, and they literally explained that screen sharing is not an option available through chat support. They went on to explain, however, that phone support has the option to screen share and offered to schedule a call back so you could talk on the phone and screen share like you wanted.


You’re not listening and arguing in circles, causing your own frustration.
