I got this phone New from Apple with a trade in, and it’s asking for a 6 digit passcode straightaway! I tried all of the usual ones (000000, 123456, etc), even my old passcode, but no go. Anyone else have this problem?

It's not asking for a code which has already been set. It's asking you to create the passcode you'll use and need to remember to unlock your phone. You can choose a 6 digit passcode or you can tap the button under it to change to a 4 digit passcode. Once you've entered the one you want to use, you have to confirm it and enter it a second time.
