How can I regain control of my MacBook Pro?

In 2020, my son purchased a MacBook Pro for his girlfriend at the time (I have the receipt as proof). When they broke up, she gave it back to him. He cleared it and gave it to me (his father). I have been using it for the the last 3 1/2 years. But then, on 4/11/2025, the ex-girlfriend who still had it linked to her Apple ID had it remotely erased and flagged it as LOST! I've lost everything. Apparently, they don't speak anymore and I am left with a really slick looking paperweight. Is there anything I can do besides contacting her and asking her to reconsider what she did? It may have been a mistake I suppose. Thoughts? Again, I have the receipt proving my son bought it!

you can try  taking it in—schedule an in-person service appointment with an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider ( Find Locations )

Bring your Mac to the appointment, and bring your original receipt or invoice as proof of purchase.
