hey there! I’ve had this exact same issue first,

have you recently applied a screen protector on it device? If so, (and as ridiculous as it sounds) certain screen protectors are capable of interfering with the TrueDepth sensor and/or the front facing camera and try removing it if you have put one on.

also, very rarely (in my experience this has only happened once on my iPhone 15 last year) the Face ID begins to reject your face, even if you don’t look any different than prior to the initial setup of the Face ID.

try this:

go to settings, scroll down to “Face ID and passcode” section,

there you’ll see the option to use Face ID with a face mask, you should also see the option to “set up alternate appearance” which allows you to either choose two different face scans of your face or if you share your device with a friend or family member and trust them with your phone you can use this option to set up a facial recognition for them.

But since I don’t know what you are exactly seeing on the display when attempting to unlock via Face ID, it might be worth going through the process of tapping on the “reset Face ID option.

for good measure I would recommend you preform a hard reset after deleting your Face ID details just to clear some of the unnecessary data that is accumulating in the background.

first (you don’t necessarily need to do this, but on the off chance that something is amiss) you should create a new Lock Screen passcode (at least six digits in length) or an alphanumeric one prior to doing the hard reset. (Anytime you change your passcode you’ll be able to use the old one for the next 24 hours in the event that you forget what you just changed it to, (helps when you have severe ADHD)

if you don’t know how to preform a hard reset just do this

  • hit the volume up button and quickly release
  • hit the volume down and quickly release
  • press and hold the lock button until you see the slide to power off, but don’t let your finger off the button because it will automatically reset.
  • when you see the Apple logo you can go ahead and release the key.
  • then enter your new passcode (or old one if you decide to skip the recommendation)
  • go back into the “Face ID and passcode” section of your settings and set up a new Face ID profile

if you have any further issues then you should probably have it checked out by Apple,

Tbt I shouldn’t even be recommending contacting Apple after the last few months of just awful experiences with zero resolutions to this day.

but I hope you can get this resolved without the hassle of having to deal with that.

I hope that you got a little help from this and let me know how it goes. I hope you have a great rest of your week!
