Hardware defect/No repair possible : Cellular baseband, eSim, cellular RF

Hello

I am experiencing an issue with my iPhone 15 (still under warranty) concerning the cellular baseband, eSIM, and cellular RF. I ran a diagnostic on my device and was alerted to a hardware issue. I was subsequently advised to visit a retailer for further assistance.

At the retailer, another diagnostic was performed, and they confirmed that a repair is required. However, they informed me that they are unable to order the necessary spare parts due to import restrictions on telecommunication devices in Mauritius. Additionally, since I purchased my phone in Dubai, the spare parts specific to the UAE region cannot be imported into Mauritius

As a result, neither the repair nor the replacement of my iPhone is possible locally, as there is no official Apple Store in Mauritius—only authorized resellers—I am unable to proceed with a local solution.

I would like to know how I can proceed under these circumstances. Is there a way to have my phone repaired or replaced under the international warranty?

Additionally, I have a friend traveling to Paris soon. Would it be possible for the repair or replacement to be carried out there?

There is no international warranty on iPhones, because there is not just one iPhone design; there are internal differences between regions. That’s why it is important to buy an iPhone in the country or region where it is used most of the time. About your only option is to take it to Dubai, or send it to someone you know and trust in Dubai.

On the off-chance that it isn’t a hardware problem, try reloading the baseband firmware:

Go to Settings/General/About and look at Modem Firmware. Is the entry blank? If it is you need to reinstall it by restoring the phone to factory settings, then restoring a backup. Back up the phone first, of course:

  1. How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
  2. Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support - follow the instructions to restore using your computer, do not using Settings/General/Reset (which is not included in those instructions)
  3. Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup - Apple Support

If the modem firmware DOES have a value you really do have a hardware problem.

So, if we look at the Worldwide Warranty, this section would apply. Consumer ships portable device per Apple Supports instructions is how I read it.

“However, service will be limited to the options available in the country where service is requested. If the product is not portable, warranty service may be restricted to the country where the product is purchased. Service options, parts availability and response times will vary according to country. You may be responsible for shipping and handling charges if the product cannot be serviced in the country it is in. In accordance with applicable law, Apple may require that you furnish proof of purchase details and/or comply with registration requirements before receiving warranty service. Please refer to the accompanying documentation for more details on this and other matters on obtaining warranty service.”

Well, there are certainly loopholes in that document, which gives Apple the opportunity to not provide warranty service internationally:

If the product is portable, meaning that it can operate independently without a power cord, you may obtain warranty service worldwide. However, service will be limited to the options available in the country where service is requested.

But perhaps you can explain why Apple's very specific legal warranty for iPhone/iOS based devices, directly, suggests warranty may be limited to the country of purchase? Contained in this link --> Legal - iOS Warranty Document Us - Apple

Is the following:

IMPORTANT RESTRICTION FOR iPHONE, iPAD, APPLE TV, HOMEPOD, AND APPLE VISION PRO SERVICE.

Apple may restrict warranty service for iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, HomePod, and Apple Vision Pro to the country where Apple or its Authorized Distributors originally sold the device.

You have maintained in other threads that Apple Warranty for iPhone is International. Apple doesn't seem to agree with you on this, however. And people come to this forum and complain they were denied warranty service on an iPhone they purchased in one country, but tried to get serviced in another country. That is indisputable.

This is a risk you take when you purchase an iPhone outside the country you live and will use the phone. There really is no such thing as an International Warranty. Apple's own legal warranty terms say "Apple may limit the warranty to the country of purchase."

By all means do as Jeff Donald suggests, but you may find you need to return the phone to the country you bought the phone and Apple usually doesn't accept international shipment, which could mean taking the phone physically with you there.

Apple has a warranty site, it’s broken down by region, country.

if there was a worldwide warranty, why would they do that?

You can read it however you like, but the fact that Apple will not accept an international shipment for service makes it a moot point.

Continuing to insist that the warranty is international does a disservice to the people who come here looking for help.

That link seems to specify exclude UAE and several other countries.

That’s a description of that particular part of the corporate and tax organization used by Apple, and less about the warranty itself.

Whether Apple in France is able and willing to repair a device purchased in UAE is still up to Apple, and not something that should be assumed.
