iPad WiFi calling prompt, when iPad has no cell service capability.

My iPad ( Model # MK2N3LL/A, 9th Gen , OS Version 18.3.2 ) keeps asking me if I would like to turn on WiFi calling, to which I reply “No”, as this model does not have cell calling capability. How do I convince my iPad to stop this process? This is a random occurrence which may not replicate for days or weeks.

Also, my IPhone 13 ( Model # MLA23LL/A, iOS version 18.3.2 ), under the cellular screen has “Calls on other devices” permanently “On”, but grayed out and cannot be changed to “Off”. If I select the “Calls…” field to reach the nested functionality, I notice “Calls on other devices” slider is grayed out and in the leftmost position indicating “Off”.

Thanks in advance.

While an iPad cannot directly make Cellular calls, the iPad can make calls via your iPhone using WiFi Calling if supported by your Cellular Carrier over a WiFi network connection.

If the iPhone's Cellular settings are inaccessible, this would suggest that your iPhone either has ScreenTime restrictions applied, or perhaps some other restriction applied via Carrier settings. Check that you haven't intentionally restricted access to key settings on your iPhone:

Settings > ScreenTime > Content & Privacy Restrictions > [Allow Changes To]

  • Passcode & FaceID - set to Allow
  • Accounts - set to Allow
  • Mobile Data - set to Allow

Should your Cellular Carrier have applied any additional settings restrictions by way of a Carrier Settings file, you'll not be able to over-ride any carrier-locked settings.
