Can Apple Watch work with Mint Mobile like Verizon?

I have an Apple Watch Series 6 GPS-Only. I was able to receive and answer calls and messages when my phone was nearby when I was on Verizon but I cannot do so now that I have switched to Mint Mobile. I knew that Mint Mobile did not support independent calling on Apple Watches that were GPS + Cell but I had expected my watch to "piggyback" off my iPhone when it was on the Mint Mobile network. Was I mistaken? Or, is there a way to have my watch interact with my phone as it did when I was on Verizon?
