Touchpad not recognizing my fingerprint on MacBook Air

My touchpad no longer recognizes my fingerprint so I can't use it to sign in. I tried to fix it by erasing my fingerprint and reloading it but that did not fix the problem.

I have a rebuilt MacBook Air.

Why is my 'MacBook Air Touch ID' not recognizing my fingerprint? Mine is a MacBook Air M2 (15", 2023). Initially the touch ID used to work like a charm, super fast. But recently, it has been giving me some serious issues. It can't recognize my finger most of the time. As a result, I have to type in my password which is pretty annoying, specially when I'm trying to be quick. One thing I should mention is that I have no issue deleting and adding in my fingerprint again. That still doesn't solve the issue. Also, this is not specific to any particular instance, this tends to happen almost everywhere, logging into my computer, unlocking notes, verifying purchases etc. What to do? Is there something I'm missing out on? Also my software is up to date. [Re-Titled by Moderator]

What does “rebuilt” mean exactly? Was this work done by Apple, at an Apple Store, or Authorized Apple Service Center? If not, that may well explain the issue.
