MacBook Pro fingerprint pad not working, can't add new

I have a 2018 MAcBookPro, updated to Version 26.2 (20623.1.14.18.4). 2 days ago my fingerprint pad does not function, I tried to delete-then reinitiate a new fingerprint-my fingerprint was not recognized, so no new print/access was able to be made ---any help? (can still log in w/password)

You can try both—

resetting the System Management Controller Reset the SMC of your Mac - Apple Support

resetting NVRAM/PRAM Reset NVRAM on your Mac - Apple Support

no resolve—

A SafeBoot Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support will sort many anomalies

Does a quick disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, third party system modifications and system accelerations are disabled temporarily.

Login and test. Reboot as normal and test. Caches get rebuilt automatically.
