iMac with Intel CPU malfunction with upgrade to Sequoia

After installing Sequoia on iMac with Intel CPU problems quickly surfaced.

Slow to load any application, delayed response to many keyboard commands; contacts and messages failed to sync with other devices; leaving in sleep mode necessitated restart.

Apple Support chats/phone calls could not remedy problem.

Device taken to Apple Store and eventually system downgraded to Sonoma 14.6

Most applications run smoothly.

Still does not sync contacts and messages with other devices.

Disappointing that Apple did not foresee incompatibility issues with new OS interacting with Intel CPU.

iMac 21.5″, macOS 14.6

After upgrading from Monterey 12.7.6 to Sequoia v15.4.1 on my Apple refurb Core i7 2020 27-in iMac with 40 GB RAM, I have absolutely no issues after the upgrade. Nothing slowed down. Actual improvement over Monterey. Certainly no "CPU malfunction."

Glad your system is working.

May not be a universal problem with iMacs having Intel CPU -- but after in-store evaluation / and diagnostic assessment of my device Apple could not offer any other explanation or for provide a solution except to backdown to Sonoma.

There must be some other problem with the iMac, because our 2018 Intel Mac mini has no problem running macOS 15.4.1 Sequoia.
