The iPhone uses on-device intelligence to learn from your past behavior and suggest relevant features based on your activity history. For example, if you frequently use SharePlay during FaceTime calls with a particular contact or group, your iPhone takes note of this pattern. So the next time you initiate or receive a FaceTime call with those same people, your device may proactively suggest SharePlay with a notification or prompt—making it easier to access the feature you regularly use.
However, when you're on a FaceTime call with someone new or with whom you haven’t used SharePlay before, your iPhone likely won’t show any suggestions. This is because it hasn’t yet recognized a pattern or behavior to trigger that prompt. Essentially, the iPhone tailors its suggestions based on familiarity and habits—it’s like having a digital assistant who learns your social habits but doesn't jump in unless it's sure it's being helpful.
There’s no specific toggle just for disabling SharePlay suggestions during FaceTime or in the Phone app. However, there are a couple of broader ways to reduce or prevent these suggestions from appearing:
If SharePlay prompts are popping up based on past behavior and you want to “start fresh”:
- Go to: Settings > Siri & Search
- Scroll down and tap “Siri & Dictation History”
- Tap Delete Siri & Dictation History
This clears what Siri has learned, including patterns that might be prompting SharePlay suggestions.
Note: This affects all Siri-based suggestions, not just SharePlay. You may lose helpful prompts like recent contacts or app actions.
