Set up macbook air as a new computer or use existing user id from my mac studio? Using Mac Studio and bought macbook air for travel-trying to figure out best way to set up

Though this is not a critical choice, I suggest you setup the MacBook Air with the same computer user ID and login info. That is to say if you log into your Mac Studio with the user name "Messy Desktop", then use the same name on the MBA. No reason to complicate things with extra stuff to remember.


However, the Apple Account (AppleID) that you use is critical. Make sure you use the same Apple Account (AppleID) email address and password that you already use on the Mac Studio when you set up and sign in to iCloud services on the MBA. Don't create a new Apple Account, it will only confuse things as you try to sync and access contacts, calendars, purchases, etc across multiple devices.


The best way to transfer your files and data from the Mac Studio to the MBA will be to create a Time Machine backup to an external drive on the Studio then use that when you setup the MBA for the first time. The Setup Assistant will ask if you want to transfer or migrate data from another Mac, and the TM backup drive is what you'll use.
