Why does my iPhone 15ProMax camera every now and then move to video mode instead of photo?

I don't like taking videos unless I really mean to and I have noted that my iPhone 15 Pro Max camera will let me set up to take a photo, but then it converts to a video. If I stop myself from taking the picture and try to set it up again to take a picture and not a video, and I raise it to take the picture, it defaults again to a video. How do I stop that. I want to take videos when I want to take them. I don't want the camera or the iPhone telling me that something has to be a video.

It’s easy to accidentally lightly brush the screen for the input to be interpreted as a mode change. There is no getting around that I’m afraid. You can use the Preserve Settings feature to make Photo mode the default mode. That way every time you turn the camera on, Camera app will automatically set your preferred camera settings for you.

Please follow this path,

iPhone > Settings > Camera > Preserve Settings > set the camera up the way you want and then turn on the features to make it the default.
