Can I change the prefix of my iCloud email address?

I need the have the address on my iCloud changed (myname@iCloud.com). The name on there is the name that I had when I was with my abuser, and I cannot have that on there without it giving me flashbacks. How do I change it? If I have to create a new iCloud address what does that cause me to lose?

I'm sorry to hear that - trauma can be difficult to get past. You can change your Apple Account primary email as per these instructions: Change your Apple Account primary email address - Apple Support. In particular:

"If you only have an iCloud email address associated with your Apple Account

You can change your iCloud email address using a device with iOS 18.1 or later, and iPadOS 18.1 or later.

If your only email address associated with your account is an iCloud email address, you won’t see an option to Remove from Account. Instead, you’ll see an option to Change Email Address.

Choosing this option changes only your existing iCloud email address. You’ll continue to be able to use your iCloud Mail and the messages sent to it. Your new iCloud email address replaces the old email address."

There is also the option (via iCloud Mail in your web browser) to create aliases. Aliases don't change your primary email per se, but give you alternate addresses that you can send and receive from - and also make the alternates your default.

And of course there are hide-my-email addresses.

Best of luck.

Changing you Cloud eMail Address:

You Can't. You can only create one primary iCloud eMail account. So, once created, it cannot be changed. However, with an iCloud+ subscription, you can create a Hide My eMail profile.
