How do I stop voicemail from showing on my iPhone Phone app?

After a recent update, when I open up my phone app, instead of seeing all my recent calls, half of the screen shows voicemails. I can select show all on either the phone calls or the voicemail, but I do not want these extra steps. When I open my phone app, I only want to see recent phone calls. I've given up on the voicemail, I don't want to see it ever. I can't find any settings to fix this.
