now I know the number is not correct and the syntax and verbiage is a bit out of rhythm.

This appeared on my iPhone as text from it********y@gmail.com

But this is new to me and I wanted to tell everyone that those scammers are still out there continuing to use this approach to access your banking and financials.

Good job identifying that (rather obvious) attempted scam.

Some key points in a scam:

  1. That message never mentioned you by name.
  2. The poor grammar and "icloud id" was too obvious to miss.
  3. There is no "Apple Pay Pre Authorization".
  4. Never respond to a scammer who is (most likely) working in an organized scam call center in another country.

That’s all the evidence you need to block, report and delete the message.

Again, good job in identifying that scam and spreading the message.

In closing:

If you receive a suspicious email or SMS text message that looks like it's supposed to be from Apple, please email it to reportphishing@apple.com. 
