Why won't my iPhone pair with Mercedes COMAND?

I have been happily using Bluetooth to pair my iPhone 15 (with iOS 18) with my car's av COMAND system for music, telephone, etc, then it stopped working. Applecare advised deleting COMAND's current list of phones and starting again. But COMAND asks for a passcode and I don't know the passcode. Mercedes agents say a passcode will be sent to the car and my phone, but it isn't.

Any advice on getting iPhone to pair with a car?

Did you remove the car from the iPhone? Once you have done that, open Bluetooth on the iPhone and make sure that Bluetooth is turned on, then go into the car settings and try to add the phone. It should pop up a number on both the car and the phone and you just have to agree that it matches. Check with Mercedes that you have the latest version of COMAND. Ask them if it is compatible with the latest iOS. Newer Mercedes use MBUX, so they may need to be sure that COMAND supports the latest iOS. You may be best going to your Mercedes dealer for assistance.
