Camera app not working after updating my iPhone 14 Plus to iOS 18.4.1

Using my iPhone 14+ for 14 months now. Updated to the iOS 18.4.1 and this resulted in my back camera and flash and sometimes, my front facing camera no longer working. Spoke with Apple support who ran the diagnostics to be told it most likely is a sensor issue and that Hardware may be to blame. After multiple restarts and reboots, the camera then did work for a short period. Decided to ask for a diagnostics to be run again whilst working - because surely if the issue was there still it would show. Was told this time its a software issue and the camera and everything else is fine.

Wondered if anyone else has had this experience, as it seems a number of people have had this issue following the updates only to be told it's hardware and need to pay for the fix! I could understand if I had thrown this against a wall or dropped the phone but very reluctant to fork out for an issue that wasn't caused by any of my doing!

Phone sent to apple after contacting the support team. Phone sent Friday, returned today, replaced the camera and done everything they needed to the phone. No charge or issues. So those that were saying user must pay for the issue to be fixed maybe ought to let apple provide the advice before commenting 👍

Hello again ~ So it was indeed a hardware issue and not the update…correct? Glad your iPhone has been repaired.

That is what warranty is for. You have a 12 month limited warranty on the iPhone and depending on your location, can purchase AppleCare or AppleCare+. When you have a problem with your car and the warranty has expired, you are expected to pay for the repair. Same thing here. If something failed on the phone and you are no longer covered by warranty, you are expected to pay for the repair. You were originally told it was a hardware issue.

I have had the same issue, the camera still works in the adobe Lightroom app but not anything else.

also the flash light doesn’t work anymore

currently on iOS 18.5

since part of my job requires having access to a camera that works I’m either having to replace my phone or pay to much for a repair i shouldn’t need.

and yes I blame apple and won’t be buying anything else they make. This was the breaking point for me.

Hello~ Shame on Apple? I have updated my old trusty iPhone 12 mini and absolutely no camera or any other issues for that matter. If an update ruined one camera…doesn’t it follow it would ruin them all? Get your iPhone checked properly.

By the way two family members with Android phones have had multiple issues with their cameras as well…go figure?

Has anyone found a solution to fix this issue? I updated to iOS 18.5 and tried everything, but nothing has worked—including uninstalling and reinstalling apps that use the camera, and toggling camera access permissions. I use a lot of apps that require camera access, so this has been really frustrating. I can’t even make payments using QR codes.
