Why is my MacBook Air not discovering nearby Bluetooth devices?

I've just got a new MacBook Air and everything seems set up ok but it's not "discovering devices nearby" either Bluetooth.

Bluetooth is turn on on the MacBook and my phone, mouse and printer are all in Bluetooth mode but only my AirPods (in another room) are showing up on the list??

Any advice please

You can't pair it with an iPhone. That's never been supported and isn't necessary.

Make sure the devices you want to pair with are in discoverable mode. If they were previously paired with another machine, they won't be unless you actively put them in discoverable (pairing) mode.
