Updated to latest iOS 18.5 and still no push notifications, ongoing since original update to iOS 18.1

This is a never ending chase to get these bugs fixed in IOS. Prior to iOS 18 version 17 was flawless with receiving push notifications to my iPhone 15 Pro. Since the initial upgrade to 18.1 ALL push notification never reach the phone or when a notification does the screen stays off, chimes, and does not indicate anything was received when the screen is turned back on. No increment of the icons, but blank notification bars sometimes appear. Just upgraded to 18.5 and NOW is even worse with the phone remaining completely silent when a push notification is sent to the device. Checked all notifications settings, no focus enabled, changed ALL affected apps notification sounds and options, still nothing. Visited the Apple Store Genius Bar when had 18.4 installed and no solution could be found after a 2hr analysis of the phone. Apple is really failing at this point.

All push notifications reach my phone; contact Apple Support about your problem.

One possibility:

Do you have a 3rd party VPN installed, even if you are not using it? If so, delete the VPN profile in Settings/General/VPN & Device Management/VPN. Don't just turn it off; delete the profile.

Why do you suggest deleting VPN? What could that do under the hood?

It can affect the various ways in which your phone connects to networks. If the phone can't connect properly, things like notifications will stop working.

Note that the circumstances under which you would need a VPN are very limited. Depsite what the fear-mongering ads from Norton would have you believe, they don't improve your personal security.

hello! i had this issue and this method FINALLY worked, the people in the comments echoed the same sentiment. i think this one might really be your winner. and i agree, major issue on apple's behalf. we shouldnt be expected to come up with these kind of fixes for something as simple as notifications.

https://www.reddit.com/r/ios/comments/1jihgmx/fix_for_possible_notification_bug/

  • Settings > Notifications > Messages
  • Turn off “Lock Screen,” “Notification Center,” and “Banners"
  • Restart device
  • Go back and re-enable those 3 options

So turn it off. You don't need to use that feature.

I can't seem to disable this new feature, that's setting "Personal" [Focus] on without my doing anything.

Open Settings>Focus>Personal> and turn off Intelligent Breakthrough & Silencing.

I’m having problems with mine too. I just updated it last night and i don’t receive any text notifications, no tone, no vibration when silent and i couldn’t delete certain text messages. This is so frustrating ‘cause i rely to receive text messages on my watch while at work. Everything else seems okay but the messages app. I hope they’ll fix this soon.

The voice to text still doesn’t work, the grammar is still improper, the punctuation is horrendous, the spelling is a joke, mail doesn’t come when it’s supposed to, there’s no notifications even though they’re turned on, these things have been going on for years and yet we’re so excited to have a certain kind of flag to download his wallpaper. Why is this happening? Why does AppleCare more about a flag than fixing serious flaws with their phones that have been ongoing for years? This is not a rhetorical question.

The AI enhanced "Reduce Interruptions" thing seems to have turned my phone into a useless device. I even went through and set it to notify for everything in my address book, but I'm still finding folks (and important business calls!!) saying it's just going to voicemail. I can't seem to disable this new feature, that's setting "Personal" [Focus] on without my doing anything. What a horrible update. Been using iPhones in our house for like 20 years and I hate this thing right now.

Followed all the OP's suggestions as well. 18.5 might have finally broken it for us. No notification sounds for iMessage on iPhone and a super low sound on iPad. Notification (and its sounds) are a primary function of a phone. If it doesn't sound, the phone is effectively useless. I heard 18.5.1 is coming out soon. Hoping this will fix the issues we are seeing.

Have an Apple Watch— hasn’t been on or charged in the last few months.

Troubleshooting completed includes the following:

  1. Reset the phone (volume up, volume down, hold the sleep button until the phone shuts off and the Apple logo pops up)
  2. Turned the phone off for ~15 minutes, had some folks text me while it was off.
  3. Made sure that no focus statuses were being shared across devices
  4. Reset all focus statuses (removed all rules on them) and made sure none were active on the phone
  5. Turned off notifications for messages, then turned back on
  6. Turned off silent mode, then turned back on
  7. Turned off haptics + sound for text messages, then turned back on.

No resolve- still screwed.
