Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out — sorry to hear you're having trouble with your new Magic Trackpad (model A3120, version 3.1.4). Based on what you've described — the device connects but then hangs during setup with a spinning loading icon — here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue:

1. Unpair and Reconnect

  • Go to System Settings > Bluetooth.
  • Remove the Magic Trackpad (click the “i” or right-click and choose "Forget").
  • Turn the trackpad off and on again, then reconnect it manually via Bluetooth.

2. Reset Bluetooth Module (if needed)

Sometimes resetting your Mac’s Bluetooth module can clear issues:

  • Hold down Shift + Option, click the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar, and choose "Reset the Bluetooth module" (or "Factory reset all connected Apple devices" if shown).

3. Safe Mode

Boot your Mac into Safe Mode and try the setup again. This can sometimes clear out startup-related bugs:

  • Shut down your Mac.
  • Turn it on and hold Shift until you see the login screen.

4. Try on a Different macOS User Profile

It could be a user-specific issue:

  • Create a new user account in System Settings > Users & Groups, log in, and try pairing there.

5. NVRAM/PRAM Reset

  • Shut down your Mac.
  • Turn it on and immediately hold Option + Command + P + R for about 20 seconds. This resets system settings related to input devices.

If none of the above works, it’s possible there’s a firmware compatibility issue with the newer Trackpad version and certain macOS versions — even if your Mac is up to date. You could also try using macOS Recovery Mode to reinstall macOS without erasing data, which sometimes fixes deeper system issues.

Let me know if any of these steps help, or if you're still stuck. I’d be happy to keep troubleshooting with you.

Best,

Oliver
