If your phone can connect to other Wifi networks, you should ask Alaska Airlines if there is an issue with their inflight service. Also, if by chance you have a VPN installed on your phone, VPN causes Wifi connectivity issues and VPN is completely NOT needed on iPhone at all. If you have one, not only turn it off, but remove the VPN profile completely. The only people who really need a VPN is when an employer or school requires one to access their secure servers.

My wife’s phone worked fine, so I don’t think it was a WiFi problem. Yes, there was a VPN on, which I turned off. I will try removing it before my next flight. Although I have used the AA with this VPN several times before without problems. Thank you for the response!

You're welcome. Get rid of the VPN. They simply cause too many connectivity issues on iPhone and they TRULY don't provide the security you think they do. In fact, quite the opposite. Trust the security already built into iOS on your iPhone.
