[UPDATE : May 2025] New Message Tagging in iPhone Messages App – Anyone Noticing Tags like “-S”, “-P”, “-G”?

Hey everyone!

Since around 8th May 2025, I’ve noticed something new in the Messages app on my iPhone, and it’s actually kinda cool.

Now, whenever I get an SMS, there’s a little tag added at the end of the sender ID.

Like:

  • “-S” – Shows up on bank messages (like OTPs or transaction alerts)
  • “-P” – Seen on promotional messages
  • “-T” – For some card OTPs
  • “-G” – Appears on government-related messages

Example: What used to come as VK-HDFCBK now comes as VK-HDFCBK-S.

Seems like some kind of new filtering or categorisation thing — maybe from iOS or the carriers? Either way, it helps tell what kind of message it is at a glance.

Anyone else noticed this? Or know what’s actually going on behind the scenes?

Just wanted to share and see if others are seeing this too. Screenshot attached!
