I am new to Apple Music and intentionally fall asleep at night listening to an album from my library, only to be woken up after the album has ended by Apple Music continuing to play something of its choosing. How do I stop Apple Music doing this?

What you atually see in the lower right corner is a sort of list icon. Tap on that. On the screen that pops up, you can turn off auto-play by tapping on the icon that looks like an infinity symbol.

It sounds like you have Autoplay turned on.
Tap the song that's playing at the bottom of the screen. In the lower corner look for Playing Next. Scroll down to Autoplay, and make sure it is off.
My screen appears to be configured slightly differently but I have found the autoplay button and turned it off. I will see if that works tonight. Many thanks for your help.
