How can I remove an inactive Apple Account from my iPhone without signing in?

The apple id registered on my phone is not active. I want to remove it from my phone but it requires me to sign in. I cannot sign in with an inactive id. Please help. I have reached out to support and provided proof of purchase but they refuse to help me access my phone.

We only have the information that you provide to work with. In your original post, all that was included was "proof or purchase", which actually means nothing in removing an Activation Lock if not from Apple or Authorized Apple Seller. That is seen here every day here on this support site when the Activation Lock is not removed.

It still seems like there may be some missing information as a Carrier Locked device is not one of the conditions where Apple refuses to remove the Activation Lock. The conditions outlined in the Support Article are:

  • Receipt must show serial number or IMEI number with you being the owner.
  • Device must not be in Lost Mode
  • Device must not be managed by an employer or school.

Sorry you feel my previous response was rude and unnecessary as truly that was not my intention. I do think it is good news that Apple is still asking you to send the request, because in cases where it is denied, you would be notified that no further requests would be considered. You will need to continue to work with Apple on this and it does take time. I wish you the best of luck that it will be resolved soon.

The proof of purchase must be the original receipt from Apple or Authorized Apple Seller, as they do not get involved in any other third party sale. Even I could create a receipt that would prove absolutely nothing and would not mean I am the original owner of the device or if the device had been previously stolen.

While you do not provide any history of the device, f you purchased this device used or from another third party, then you are simply out of luck.

As I stated previously I purchase all of my Apple devices from Apple.

You didn't tell us that until AFTER Mac Jim ID answered.

The phone I am inquiring about was purchased by me from the Apple Store on the college campus I have now graduated from. And also as I stated I submitted this information to Apple as well.

Again, we could not know what you submitted until you told us. It's always a good idea to include this sort of details in the first post so that people down have to keep asking for more information.

The only information I didn’t give is that when they responded I was told I had a carrier locked after going through my documents and being verified as the original owner at that time I was told my account would be sent to a different department and they would contact me directly within 24hrs unless tht falls on the weekend. Within 6 hrs I was contacted and asked they asked me to resubmit the original receipt, whn submitted I was told the exact same thing about it being sent to someone and them getting back to me and this process has repeated itself 3 times I’m currently on the 4th time having submitted my receipts having being verified the original owner and my account being sent no where only for them to ask me for the same thing by different ppl. So I submitted my question here in hopes that someone would be able to help me.

How long ago did you start this process? My understanding is that it can take up to a month.

No one here in this user-to-user forum can remove the old account from your phone. Only Apple can do that. Annoying though it may be, you'll need to keep working with them on this.

Did you ask where did i purchase my device or are you assuming that I bought a stolen device from a third party? Not that I owe you anything after the rude and unnecessary response to my question but all of my devices were purchased from an Apple Store. The device in question I have had since released in 2018 that was paid for in full and bn used by me until I recently paid for my current iPhone 16 in full.

No one is suggesting that you stole anything. However, even when you legitimately buy an iPhone from its original owner, you are not considered the original owner. No receipt from your purchase will satisfy Apple's requirements for an original receipt. Only an original receipt from Apple or an Authorized Apple Reseller will do. Mac Jim ID had no way of knowing where you bought the phone.

Do you have the original receipt?

I see you just have nothing else to do and wanna argue over nothing. If u didn’t have a productive response why say anything that wasn’t directed to you? Thanks for nothing and have the day you deserve.

I do hope that is not the same tone used when asking for assistance from Apple to remove the Activation Lock. That will likely get you nowhere.

You didn't answer my question: How long ago did you start this process? My understanding is that it can take up to a month. And that's fine. I don't need to know the answer. But you might want to consider that it may just take a long time.
