Waze crashes all the time after iOS 18.5 update on my iPhone 15 Pro

I recently updated my iPhone 15 Pro to IOS18.5 and from that moment I started to have issues with the Waze app. Both in Car Play and using it directly in the phone the app crashes when setup for an address.

Before the update to iOS 18.5 I never had Waze crash on me either on the iPhone or using CarPlay.

To reproduce it, simply pick the icon for work or home from the Waze screen and watch the app crash. After you that when you open the app again it asks you if you want to resume the drive to the address you selected when it crashed. I have also reproduced it using the iPhone directly without CarPlay.

Anyone else having the same fun???

Thank you for your response I knew that and had already opened a similar chat at the Waze site. However, Waze did not had a single issue when it was running under IOS 18.4 and the problems I described here showed up for me and all the folks in this thread after updating to IOS 18.5

BTW, the thread in the Waze community server is also getting folks to indicate they have the exact same issue.

Obviously there is an incompatibility here and I for one could care less which side decides to fix it first. After all both products are good and have a great following.

OK. While you may not care which side fixes the issue, I can assure you the Apple Side cannot fix it. The fact it was working OK on 18.4 indicates Waze, who, by the way was provided the Application Protocol Interface (API) in advance of 18.5 being rolled, didn't update their app to be compatible with iOS 18.5. ONLY Waze can solve this.

Hello,

I got the latest version of Waze v5.9 installed in my iPhone running IOS 18.5 and I am happy to report that I have not experienced the crash since I completed the installation. Now mind you is only a few days thus a few attempts but so far so good.

I strongly recommend you go ahead and install v5.9 if you are experiencing this problem and write back in this thread with your results.

As a developer I have been experiencing the same issue as we push new updates of our app to TestFlight. The thing we found was that on iPhone 16, iOS 18.5, it crashes once, iPhone 16, iOS 18.4, it does not crash, iPhone 15, iOS 18.5, it crashes frequently, and iPhone 13, iOS 16.7, it does not crash. This seems to be a bug within iOS 18.5, yes as a developer we can come up with a hotfix to mitigate this, but at the end of the day Apple still needs to fix this on their end.

Hello,

For those of you following this saga. I received notification that Waze released an update to the app new version is 5.8.1; which was supposed to address this issue. I noticed that after the update Waze crashes with CarPlay were less frequent yet still occurred. I continue to send. them logs every time the app crashes. They responded that a new update is coming out on Monday 7/14 that should help with this condition.

Same thing on my 16 Pro Max. Waze randomly crashes while driving (it seems to happen more when it’s notified me of something - police, traffic, etc.) and takes several minutes before it can be restarted - if at all. I’ve removed the CarPlay connection and re-added it, and restarted the phone multiple times. This started after the iOS 18.5 update.

Hi all,

Same started happening to me a few weeks ago on Iphone 13 Pro Max. I'm using IOS 18.5 at the moment.

I open WAZE, set a destination. App freezes for a few seconds 20, 30, etc and than crashes and closes.

I have to open app again, and than, set the same destination and it might resume normally.

Sometimes, the second time I open the app, it asks if I want to resume the previous route and I click YES and it resumes.

Very annoying. WAZE should pay more attention to these Apple OS updates and schedule the necessary updates on their side promptly to avoid being behind user updates.

Thanks. Regards.

An update to my post on this situation.

Over the last few weeks the reboots seemed to occur less frequently and I can't explain why. Waze has not released any updates and I am still running IOS 18.5.

However, I got in contact with the Waze Dev forum and learned how to activate debug mode so I could provided logs of the condition to their developers. Last night I was able to reproduce the condition and collect logs which I sent to Waze.

Hopefully something will be done in the future about this condition by either party.

Thanks for the response.

Have you tried to restart the iPhone to see if the issues persist?
If so, you might want to get into contact with the apps developer to get further support on the issue

Yes I have rebooted the phone at least twice since this started and also removed and re-installed Waze as suggested in the Waze Community for this kind of issues prior to iOS 18.5.
