Received a message yesterday that the battery in the air tag was low. I installed a new battery, but never got the connect screen. I also checked the Find My app and don't see anyway to connected it there.
It was originally connected to an iPhone 13 and I upgraded to an iPhone 16 about two months ago, if that makes any difference.

When you replaced the battery, did the AirTag beep when you secured the battery cover? Also, did you make sure that the replacement battery did not come with a bitterant coating?

It would ONLY if you are using a different Apple Account with the new phone.
After about 5 attempts, resetting the AirTag finally worked. I got the message to connect it to the phone.

Ok, you cleaned the battery, and the tag beeped when closing the cover ... but, when you bring the tag near your iPhone, your phone doesn't "see" it ... correct? Nor does it appear on the Items tab of the iPhone's Find My app?
If both are true, then I suggest trying the following things. Try each step, until (hopefully) the issue is resolved:
Yes it did beep. I'll check for the coating.
I cleaned the battery with alcohol, it still beeps and nothing else.
no, it’s the same account. As state, I had received a message that the battery was low, so it had to be tied to my account.
