Where does a Mac screenshot sent to iPhone get saved, and how do I keep it?

i took a screenshot on Macbook pro, click the 'send to phone' button (circled in blue, see attached picture 1) and sent it to my iphone. The screenshot did show up on iphone immediately, in a similar setup as 'picture editing' (see attached picture 2). However, once i click 'done' on my iphone. I can no longer find this screenshot on my iphone at all. Not in Photos, not in File. Can someone help me figure out where is this screenshot saved on my iPhone?

When a *screenshot captured on a Mac* is subsequently conveyed to an *iPhone*, the definitive repository in which it is stored is contingent upon the transfer modality utilized. The precise location of the image varies depending on whether it was transmitted via *AirDrop, Messages, iCloud, or an alternative file-sharing mechanism*. Below is a comprehensive exposition delineating the potential storage destinations and the methodologies to ensure its long-term retention.

### Comprehensive Analysis of Screenshot Storage on iPhone

*1. AirDrop Transmission and Image Preservation*

- When a screenshot is dispatched through *AirDrop*, the recipient is prompted with an immediate choice to either *Accept or Decline*the incoming file.

- Upon acceptance, the image is seamlessly deposited within the *Photos app*, typically categorized under *Recents or the Downloads album*.

- To efficiently retrieve the file, navigate to *Photos > Albums > Recents*, or utilize the intuitive *Search function*within the Photos application.

*2. Messages App File Integration*

- Screenshots disseminated via *iMessage or SMS* are embedded within the respective conversation thread, remaining accessible within the messaging interface.

- To guarantee permanent retention, tap on the image within the chat, then select *Save to Photos*.

- As an alternative, execute a long-press gesture on the image and opt for *Add to Photos*, ensuring its systematic inclusion within the *Photos app*.

3. iCloud Drive Synchronization and Access

- If the screenshot is originally preserved within *iCloud Drive* on the Mac, it can be seamlessly accessed through the *Files app on the iPhone.

- To verify the storage location, navigate to Files > iCloud Drive, then locate the corresponding folder containing the image.

- Should relocation to the Photos app be necessary, select the file, tap Share, and choose *Save Image*, effectuating its integration into the photo library.

*4. Email Attachments and Third-Party Cloud Storage

- Screenshots affixed as email attachments*remain confined within the corresponding email conversation unless proactively downloaded by the recipient.

- To retain an emailed screenshot, tap on the attachment, then select Download* or Save to Photos

- Similarly, images disseminated through *third-party cloud storage services*, such as *Google Drive or Dropbox*, must be explicitly saved to the iPhone’s local storage for continued accessibility.

*Optimal Strategies for Long-Term Screenshot Retention*

To mitigate inadvertent deletion or unintentional data loss, the following best practices should be implemented:

*1. Categorization through Dedicated Albums*

- Establish a dedicated repository for screenshots within the Photos app* by navigating to *Albums > New Album*, then systematically adding relevant images.

- This approach ensures effortless retrieval while preventing unnecessary clutter within the broader photo collection.

*2. Activation of iCloud Photos Synchronization*

- Enable *iCloud Photos* to maintain real-time synchronization across Apple devices, thereby safeguarding screenshots against unexpected data loss or accidental deletion.

- To activate this functionality, proceed to *Settings > Photos > iCloud Photos*, then toggle the switch to the *On* position.

3. Utilizing the Files App for Structured Archiving*

- For users who frequently transfer screenshots between Mac and iPhone, employing the *Files app* as a structured repository within *On My iPhone* can provide an additional layer of organization.

- This strategy ensures that critical images remain accessible while minimizing risks associated with unintended removal.

looking at the 'screenshot' app again, i should clarify that button isn't officially named as 'send to iphone'. i believe it is 'send to iphone' because when i click it, it will list all the iphones (signed into same apple account as the macbook) i have nearby. and when clicking on any iphone on the list, the screenshot will show up on the iphone.

my macbook pro is on Sequoia 15.5.

my overall question is, for the screenshot sent to iphone from macbook, where it is stored after i click 'done' on iphone
