Why does dialing *#62# shows call forwarding when it's turned off in settings?

When I dial *#62# it shows my calls being forwarded to a long distance number but when I go to settings, call forwarding is turned off.

The USSD code *#62# is used to check the number your calls are forwarded to when your phone is unreachable—such as when it's off or out of coverage. This code is provided by your cellular service provider and is commonly used for troubleshooting or verifying call forwarding settings. It does not initiate or make long-distance calls by itself. Simply dialing *#62# does not result in any charges or unauthorized activity; it's purely a diagnostic tool to view current forwarding settings.

Here are several commonly used generic USSD codes that work across many mobile networks worldwide (though some may vary slightly by carrier or country):

📞 Call Forwarding & Call Settings

  • *#21# – Check divert status for all call types (voice, data, fax, etc.).
  • *#62# – Check call forwarding when unreachable (phone off or out of signal).
  • *#67# – Check call forwarding when busy.
  • *#61# – Check call forwarding when not answered.

📶 Network & Signal

  • *#*#4636#*#* – Opens the Testing menu (Android only): phone info, usage stats, and more.
  • *3001#12345#* + call – Opens Field Test Mode on iPhones (signal strength, cell tower info).

🔐 IMEI & Device Info

  • *#06# – Displays your phone’s IMEI number (International Mobile Equipment Identity).
  • *#*#232338#*#* – Shows Wi-Fi MAC address (Android only).
  • *#*#1111#*#* – Shows software version (Android – some models).

💰 Account & Balance (depends on carrier)

  • *123# – Common for checking prepaid balance.
  • *135# – Often used for data balance or offers.

🔧 Miscellaneous

  • ##002# – Cancels all call forwarding (universal command).
  • *#43# – Check Call Waiting status.
  • *43# – Enable Call Waiting.
  • #43# – Disable Call Waiting.
⚠️ Note: USSD codes may differ slightly depending on your carrier or phone model. When in doubt, check with your mobile provider or try them carefully.
