How can I publish my iOS app to the App Store when it pulls data from a website (e.g., danvast.com)?

Hi everyone,

I'm working on an iOS app that fetches data from a website (let’s say, danvast) through an API or web scraping. I want to publish this app on the App Store.

Are there any specific guidelines or steps I need to follow regarding:

  • Getting approval from Apple when the app depends on external website content?
  • Permissions or privacy issues I should be aware of?
  • Does Apple require any verification that I own or have permission to use data from danvast?

Any advice or references to official documentation would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Here are the general app review guidelines, and you will want to read and understand this document:

For your question, you’ll need to be using public and published APIs from the service provider, or have explicit permission of the third-party for use of a non-public API, and you will need permission of the third-party to use any of the third-party trademarks or service marks.

You’ll also need to disclose to your app users whatever data might be disclosed to the third-party; the privacy manifest.

The app itself will need to be more than what the service provider already exposes as a website, as well. (Creating an app that’s little more than what the website or the catalog or whatever already presents probably won’t pass app review.)

You do not want the service provider to contact Apple with complaints about your app. That can end badly for the app, and for your current and future access to the App Store.
